Venue

The venue of the Conference is the National University Library of Torino, holdings of the italian Ministry of Heritage and Culture. It has been founded in 1723 as Royal University Library, merging collections from the University Library, from the Torino city stock and from the Savoy's ducal collection. The collection increased its richness along the years and in 1876 it gained the status of National Library "to represent, in its continuity and generality, the progress and status of Italian and foreign culture".

It currently owns about 1 million books, including thousands of ancient manuscripts, incunabula and cinquecentina.

The Library is located in the historical center of the city, in the beautiful Carlo Alberto Square and in a walking distance from some of the major cultural and scenic places of Torino, like the Royal Palace, the Academy of Sciences, the Egiptian Museum, Palazzo Carignano, Piazza San Carlo considered as the elegant lounge of the city, via Po with the famous and scenic porches ending in the wide Piazza Vittorio facing the river and the hill, the University historical building of the 1700s and the modern Museum of Cinema located in Mole Antonelliana, one of the symbolic buildings of the city.

For those arriving by plane: the local airport is the Torino Caselle International Airport, located 16 km from the center of the city and connected to major european hubs.
